DAV Results

 

St Bede’s College is yet to complete Round 2 of DAV competition, with SBC 3 D Grade awaiting their chance to compete against Sandringham Secondary College in the next fortnight.

 

On Wednesday night the College had five teams from seven debate and witnessed some excellent results in strong competition.

 

Results:

A Grade – Topic: “That we should open all international borders”

SBC 1 – Nic Pudney, Nathan Saldana and John Haycroft debated against BGS 4, defeated by three points, and looking forward to the secret topics next round!

 

C Grade – Topic: “ That professional sports should have separate leagues that permit the use of performance-enhancing drugs.”

SBC 1 – Joel Bright, Malcolm Liddell and Aaron Gill, debated against Star of the Sea 1, won by three points, Best Speaker awarded to Joel Bright.  An extremely polished performance by this accomplished team for an impressive win.

 

SBC 2 – Tom Laragy, Edward McGarry and Josh Oliver, debated against St Leonard’s 6, defeated by one point in a close and competitive debate; great to see this new team moving forward with their skills very well.

 

D Grade: Topic: “That schools should provide free meals for their students”.

SBC 1 – Jeremy Mann, Dillon Bulman and Aaron Arthur, debated against Brighton Grammar School 4, won by five points, Best Speaker awarded to Dillon Bulman.   A quality debate and an excellent result from a solid team effort – well done boys, moving forward very nicely!

 

SBC 2 – Tom Griffin, Elijah Barrett and Flynn Morley, debated against Star of the Sea 1, won by one point, Best Speaker awarded to Flynn Morley.  The injection of a new first speaker into this team for the night proved the talent we have at SBC.   Well done Tom on a great first debate, supported beautifully by the experience and talent of Elijah and Flynn……a team to watch closely!

 

SBC – debate postponed until 17 May, against Sandringham Secondary College.

SBC – debate forfeited on the night by Cheltenham Secondary College, points to SBC, who had prepared well for the night and were disappointed not to have competed.  Great effort by Declan Dawson, Sam Gough, Sebastian Bartolome and Ronan Larkin – even more eager for their chance next round!

Round Three is on 1 June at Brighton Grammar School, starting at 7:00pm – all SBC supporters welcome.
