Br Jeff Calligan-Visit
Last Thursday and Friday, Brother Jeff Calligan visited St Bede’s College and spoke to a number of students across most Year levels. Brother Jeff worked for Lasallian Education Services from 2006 to 2014 and his return to Australia for this tour has been warmly welcomed by many. Over the 60+ years of Brother Jeff’s vocation he has taught in 50 of the 82 countries where the De La Salle Brothers minister.
Brother Jeff’s message to senior students was quite clear, he told them: “your job as seniors is to help those in need, it doesn’t mean that you’ve been around for a long time, it means that you have to look out for guys on the edge. Be brothers to one another, make sure that there is no one on their own. This was the formula that St John Baptist de la Salle used; it is the same formula for you today.”
Later in his visit, when addressing junior students, Brother Jeff encouraged them to discover what God dreams for each one of them; to take time to ponder, imagine and explore possibilities. He said that it is their duty to find that dream and to pursue it. He concluded each session with a life-affirming message that is worth revisiting: “Your life is very precious – be eternally grateful for it.”
We are grateful for the time that Brother Jeff spent with us and ask that God will continue to bless him and his ministry.
