ACC Athletics

Every champion was once a contender that refused to give up.

What a day it was at the ACC Athletics Carnival in the first week of Term 2, with perfect conditions for racing. The team got off to a great start with Matt Crowley our Captain of Athletics winning the 3km run in a dominating performance.
With the boys knowing that every event was important in our hopes of winning the Division 1 Championship. They gave everything and the 10 weeks of training started to pay off, as late in the day we slowly climbed the results ladder. With only a few events left on the program we managed to get in front and we waited to see how the relays unfolded. Unfortunately things did not go our way despite a fantastic win by our U16 relay and we finished second by just 11 points.
There were some outstanding performances by the team with Nicholas Grech winning 4 events and breaking the U14 Long Jump record, and Matt Crowley, James Burren, Sam Smith and Corey Kovacs all taking out titles. 31 other boys also placed in the top 3 and for the second year in a row we won the Intermediate Cup.
We are left with only one goal for 2017, win the overall Division 1 title, which is very achievable with the calibre of athletes we have here at St Bede’s College.
