Board of Management

(2019 – 2021)

I am pleased to advise that following the recent AGM, the Board of Management, which is the governing body of Oakleigh Grammar, has been ratified for the period 2019 to 2021.

Board Members:

  • Mr Chris Damatopoulos
  • Mr George Giannaros
  • Mrs Xanthi Dellis
  • Mr Sam Vassos
  • Ms Mary Moutafis
  • Mr Bill Petridis
  • Mr Jim Samarniotis
  • Mr Peter Tziotzis
  • Mr Zac Vlahandonis

Congratulations is extended to Mr Chris Damatopoulos who has been elected President and Chairman of the Board, and Mr George Giannaros who has been elected Vice President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District. We welcome to the Board a current parent and great supporter of our community and School, Mr Peter Tziotzis.

I take this opportunity to whole heartedly thank Mr Angelo Sardellis who has served with distinction as President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District, over the past 14 years. Mr Sardellis recently resigned his position due to personal reasons, and an opportunity will be afforded later this year to recognise his outstanding contribution to our Community and School. I also thank Mrs Helen Malliaros who recently served on the Board, for her contribution to the Community and our School. Importantly I thank all returning Board members for their ongoing support and contribution to our School improvement agenda.

Ahisa Tour of Israel, Palestine and Jordan

I recently joined some colleagues of Independent Schools on a Cultural Educational Tour to Israel, Palestine and Jordan. The tour was unique in that it incorporated part pilgrimage, cultural, political and educational components, and we had the privilege of meeting religious and educational leaders, who provided context to the complexity of this part of the world. It was clear that geography, history, religion and politics are intertwined. Although the tour has helped answer some questions, it has raised many more, including the future of this region and its relationship with its people. Whilst I was in Jerusalem I had the privilege of visiting The Western Wall, the main Mosque, Saint Stevens Greek Orthodox Church, and also the Tomb of Jesus, which has left an everlasting impression.

Staff News

I wish to advise Ms Sarah Boardman will continue in her role as Acting Head of Junior School until the end of this year. Consequently, Ms Tarryn Morris will maintain her position as Acting ELC Coordinator during this time.

Ms Rebecca Bland – Year 5 teacher, and Mrs Alesha Milne – Admissions Officer, will both be leaving us at the end of this term.

Ms Jenny Bean – Timetabler and Senior School Teacher, and Mr Martin Costello – Year 8 & 9 Coordinator and Middle School teacher, will both be leaving us at the end of this year due to retirement and relocation respectively.

Clapham Road Parking Project

As you are aware an additional 38 car parking spaces are planned to be constructed on Clapham Road. The latest timeline on this project provided to us by the Monash City Council is the June/July school holiday period. The duration of the project is anticipated to be four weeks, which means two of these weeks will lead to disruption to traffic flow during school term time. Closer to the end of this term we should be in a position to confirm the dates and nature of the traffic flow disruption we can expect during this time.
