https://vimeo.com/267328345

Our Autumn Concert was dedicate to the memory of Mr Cameron Fellowes – Mentor, Colleague and Friend.  The music department is hoping to create an award to acknowledge Mr Fellowes two musical passions which were Piano and Vocal Music.

Those who attended were lucky enough to see a variety of performances.  The concert featured a Year 12 Group Performance by Liam, Gracias, Spencer O’Leary and Vito Nicolaci.

We also had solo performances from Fearn FitzRoy, Nicolas Looker, Joseph Fiddes, James Burwood, Zeke Mitchell and Ryan McMullen.

Both the Junior College Band and the St Bede’s and Kilbreda Wind Symphony performed for our enjoyment.  The Jazz Vocal Group and the Jazz ensemble presented their final performance before leaving for the Generations in Jazz festival in Mt Gambier.

Thank you to the families who came to support our students, we hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.

Special thanks to our music team: Mr John Beckley, Ms Alison Bellew, Mr Chris Bieniek, Mr Kevin Edwards, Ms Laura McCormick, Mr Chris Pappas, Mr Kit Riley, Mr Peter Robertson, Mr Walter Saluni and Mr Tao Xiao.

Generations in Jazz

Generations in Jazz began 30 years ago as a Music competition aiming to help schools with the teaching of jazz music and ensemble performance. Since then, under the Artistic direction of James Morrison, one of Australia’s leading jazz musicians, the festival has expanded to be the largest Music competition in the country. Every year, thousands of secondary school students from every state and territory travel to the South Australian city of Mount Gambier to compete in this prestigious and very competitive competition.

The thrill of performing at Generations in Jazz is a major highlight for our Music students, with the Stage Band and Vocal group representing the college in 2018. Both groups worked extremely hard in their preparation for the event, including a weekend rehearsal camp at Cypress Lodge in Term One and regular early morning rehearsals. The stage band, who worked tirelessly with Mr Neil Hambly over many months, scored very highly with 87 points out of 100 for their performance. The Vocal group, under the direction of Mr Walter Saluni, delivered an outstanding presentation and won the Division 4 ANZ Vocal Award, competing against 15 other schools for the sought-after title.

The benefits that our students gain by competing in this competition are numerous. Not only do they receive valuable feedback and validation from professional adjudicators, but they also witness outstanding levels of achievement and musical excellence demonstrated by their peers at other schools, inspiring our young men to realise just what amazing things are possible with hard work, grit and perseverance.

I would like to congratulate the following students for their outstanding achievements at Generations in Jazz, 2018: Joseph Armstrong, Jacob Barry, Nathan Brookes, Justin Carino, Anders Corp-Lopez, Sean Courtier, Will Devlin, Ryan Ferreira, Joseph Fiddes, Fearn FitzRoy, Renzo Glennon, Jack Hodgkins, Luke Honey, Oscar Horsey, Nicholas Looker, Isaac Marshall, Sam McCann, Edward McGarry, Ryan McMullen, Lachlan Mindum, Zeke Mitchell, Gus Mooney, Per Ohlson, Isaac Palma, Patrick Smith, Riley Snell, Mitchell Stent, Adam Tenaglia, Ronan Traynor, Massimo Vignali and Francis Watterson.
