Grade 5 - 6
It has been a busy 2 weeks in Grade 5/6 but we must start by congratulating our Grade 5 students on all their hard work during NAPLAN. The students showed all our Grayling School Values through their determination and drive during these tests.
Reading
In Reading the past 2 weeks we have been focusing on our monitoring skills. Asking ourselves questions during our reading is so important and noticing things that happen throughout the book. Using sticky notes and annotations, we read through the book ‘What the Road said” and noted our ideas, predictions, assumptions and questions.
Writing
During Writing we concluded our Narrative block for the term. This involved writing a final narrative piece on the prompt ‘Imagine’. Students wrote about people finding objects that made something amazing happen. All their hard work learning about narratives over the past 4 weeks had built together to create some great final writing pieces.
Maths
We have been looking at a variety of areas of measurement and statistics the past 2 weeks. Focusing on our units of measurement and some of the basics of data has allowed the students to recall prior knowledge and build upon these for these maths units.
