From the Acting Principal

Week 6

Parents and Carers,

As mentioned last week we are currently making arrangements for our annual open day during Catholic Education week, on Thursday 16th March. You will notice next week that our new electronic sign will be installed on the Dudley St. and Main Rd Corner. Getting this sign up and running has been a long running task that has been worked on over a number of years by Chris Ray, Therese Stewart and Patrick Green. This should give us a great platform to get our messages out to the local community so keep your eyes peeled.

Congratulations to all our Prep students who have completed their first full week of schooling for the year. They have been building their stamina up over the last few weeks and are now looking very settled. Congratulations to Mrs Barbara Cumming for the great job she has done in getting them into the school routine with a great mix of engaging activities and the orderly practice of tasks. Obviously their wonderful start would not be possible without the support of the parents who have also been doing a great job getting them to school, each day ready and raring to go. The countdown is now well underway towards the big 100 days of school celebration.

We have our annual Twilight Sports night at CLC Eltham on Thursday the 9th March fast approaching. This is a whole school event with fun prep-2 activities from 4.30-5.30, whole school running events 5.30-6.30 and then we finish with year 3-6 fun field events between 6.30 and 7.30. While all this is going on, the parents are invited to mingle with each other while watching or participating in the events. A full rundown of times and details for the evening has been sent home in both hard copy and electronically. The PFOL will be running a BBQ and selling drinks to keep us all nourished and hydrated. They are still looking for volunteers, so make sure you offer some time to assist them. As mentioned to enable us to free up staff to set up for the event, we invite families to pick up their children at 1.00pm. As with the parent teacher conversations, we will cater for students who can’t be picked up early till normal finishing time at 3.15pm.

Included below is a message from Father Michael about the 'Principal Appointment Process.’  Please have a look as it contains a link to a google form which provides families with the opportunity to contribute to the selection process.

I mentioned at assembly on Monday that the new school bomber jackets are now available and can be worn with either the summer or sports uniform as can the polar fleece. I also mentioned how important it is for the students to wear the correct uniform each day so we should only see them in their sports uniform on PE and Sport days. I’ll take this opportunity to remind parents that all uniform items should have a name tag on them, you would be amazed just how many pieces of clothing pass through lost property without any identifying marks, which makes it difficult to return them back to their owners.

Next week we will be sending out copies of the Code of Conduct for Parents, ICT Acceptable Use Agreements and Photo Permission Forms for families to sign and return. This is an annual task that we need all families to complete.

Please take a moment to read about lots of the other exciting things happening at OLHC in the other areas of this newsletter.

Regards,
