Sports Update

NSWCPS Cross Country Championships

Our seven superstar cross country runners competed in the NSWCPS Cross Country Championships at the Sydney Equestrian Centre on Tuesday the 13th June. These students, (Charlotte Neville, Maggie Doust, Sophia Nugent, Peyton McBain, Rosemary Wright, Aila McBain and Fletcher Barratt) all ran amazing races, gave it their best effort on the track and came away with some outstanding results.

The students were competing against the rest of the best runners in the Catholic schools in Northern NSW. In the 8/9 yrs girls race, Charlotte placed 13th and Maggie placed 34th. In the 10 yrs girls, Sophia placed 5th, Rosemary 21st and Peyton 36th. Aila came 20th in the 11 yrs girls and Fletcher won the 12/13 yrs boys. Congratulations to all these students. We are all very proud of them and commend them on their sportsmanship and attitude where they excelled themselves at this level.

Sophia, Rosemary and Peyton were awarded a gold medal for being part of the winning team for the 10 yrs girls. What a wonderful surprise for these girls. Sophia and Fletcher will continue their cross country journey as they qualified to represent Polding at the NSWPSSA Cross Country Championships on the 21st July. Good luck Sophia and Fletcher!

Netball NSW Schools Cup

What a fantastic day we had in Inverell on Wednesday the 7th June at the Netball NSW Schools Cup. With 6 mixed teams from Stages 2 and 3, it was wonderful to see the sportsmanship, camaraderie and enthusiasm displayed by our students. There was a mix of wins and losses but at the end of the day, all our students had big smiles on their faces.

We took one competitive mixed team over from Stage 3. The team consisted of Danyela Bailey, Paige Floyd, Ella Bruce, Abigail Pietsch, Aila McBain, Zoe McAllister, Fletcher Barratt, Lachlan Grob and George Claxton. This team played amazingly all day and were undefeated! They then went into the final and won convincingly. They now progress to phase 2 of the Regional Finals which are held later in the year. Congratulations to this super team and good luck at the next level.

Thank you to our amazing parents who helped in coaching and organising our teams as well as umpiring our games. Kristen Bailey, Sal Floyd, Donna McAllister, Nicole Watson, Jane Van der Waal, Narelle Pietsch, Helen Smith, Alise McBain, Joanne Wright, Sue Anderson and Melissa Key - we couldn’t have got through the day without you. Our wonderful staff, Katie McMeniman, Tracey Condrick, Sarah Smith, Ron Webel and Karen Fletcher were also vital in making this day successful. Thank you for all your hard work and support to make the day so enjoyable for everyone.

Sport - Netball

Eli Cotter continues to deliver netball skills sessions for our students. We have one more week of these sessions. The students have gained so much from Eli’s expertise. Thank you for providing this opportunity for our students.

In other netball news, our very own Miss Katie McMeniman was part of the Glen Innes Opens Women’s team who competed at the State Titles in Newcastle over the June long weekend. She was accompanied by our parent Kristen Bailey, our casual Education Assistant, Lizzie Chard and numerous past members of St Joseph’s. Congratulations to these ladies who came 3rd in their division! Netball is very much alive and strong in our community.
