During the first two weeks of the Prep Music Program, our focus has been continuing to build our rhythm skills with African Drumming. Students have started to play rhythmic patterns on their drums over a steady beat accompaniment providing by a partner.
We have continued our work on singing with an awareness of correct pitch. Students have been following the pitch shapes of melodies and trying to match specific notes.
We have been revisiting some previously learnt marimba songs to prepare for new material in the coming weeks.
As always we have aimed for our prep students to have fun in music with plenty of interactive music games.
The Years 1 and 2 students had a wonderful start to Term 4. They practised their fundamental movement skills by participating in relays. The relays involved jumping through hoops and running around cones while keeping control of a basketball. This allowed students to improve their balance and coordination skills. We also started practising our basketball skills by throwing and catching the ball. Keep up the fantastic work!
The Years 3 and 4 students have begun creating their Personal Project – a unit of work where the students plan, create, and present an artwork of their own choosing. The students have all worked closely with me to ensure that their plans are strong and well thought out. I have loved seeing the independence of all the students creating beautiful artworks that they are passionate about. We will continue creating next week, then start presenting our artworks to the class. I want the students to be proud of the artworks they produce, and seeing them work so hard this week shows me that they are working hard to do so.
This term the Years 5 and 6 students are developing their leadership and teamwork skills through each of our weekly activities. This week, we are learning about computational thinking, which is a strategy that assists with complex problem-solving. In teams, students were challenged to work together to create the tallest spaghetti tower that holds a marshmallow. They were encouraged to break the problem into smaller parts and use existing structures as inspiration. The teams should be congratulated on the strong teamwork and perseverance shown. I feel especially proud of those groups who demonstrated Big 10 number 10 when their tower broke or fell over.
