Mr Cameron and Miss Ash

Wow what a busy few weeks we have had! With a school closure day, a public Holiday and NAPLAN, we feel like these weeks have flown by.

NAPLAN

This week (and next) we will be undertaking NAPLAN assessments that cover Reading, Writing, Maths and Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation). These assessments are the kind that can't be rehearsed, although students will be familiar with the format and the type of questions asked. Instead, our emphasis will be on all students doing the best they can in the time allowed and demonstrating what they know, as opposed to what they don’t know. We’re confident that all students will do the very best that they can.

Maths

This fortnight we will be focussing on Data. How data can be collected and presented and how to use graphs to show trends over time.

A reminder too, that tasks are assigned on Matific each fortnight, aligned with our focus in the classroom, that students are asked to complete as Homework. Tasks are set to cater to individual needs and you are not required to 'teach' concepts or ideas. If you find your child struggling to complete tasks or understand concepts, please let us know and we'll address them in class and amend the homework.

Writing

We have been focussing on how to use various persuasive devices or language to convince readers of a point of view over the last few weeks. We have use two different writing prompts - 'We should sell an alternative to Zooper Doopers' and 'It's better to have emotions than to not have emotions at all.'

Ed in Faith/Inquiry

We have now looked at many of the world's major religions, coming to understand values and beliefs. We will now look to focus on how these compare to one another and what makes us Catholic.

Our Identity unit has focused on three key words: Honesty, Respect and Loyalty. We were given some dilemmas and had to explain whether we would lie or tell the truth during these scenarios. We had to consider respect, honesty and loyalty when we made these decisions. Sometimes it was very tricky, especially if it was going to effect a friend of ours or were to end up in a negative situation.

Our unit has got us talking about the changes that happen to us as we reach Adolescence. We've discussed personal hygiene and that we need to be mindful and considerate of others as we make these changes at different times.

Athletics Trials

We went over to Beauty Park today to do a 100m sprint trial in preparation for the Athletics Carnival which will take place on Friday March 31st. We also did a Hurdle race back at school. Everyone had a go and we can't wait for a fun day out in a few weeks. Parents and family members are welcome to join us on this day at Ballam Park. Information will be sent out next week.
