Play Leaders are go!
This week our Play Leaders program got underway at SKiPPS. This is one of our key initiatives for improving student wellbeing and developing leadership skills at SKiPPS.
PLAY (Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth) is a program designed to enhance the resilience and wellbeing of young people. The scheme promotes children's well-being, abilities, social skills and teamwork through sessions where older children are supported to organise and run games for the younger students.
Play Leaders promotes the leaders' organisation, communication and responsibility and provides structured and fun activities for younger children to engage with at break times. |
Thirty or our Year 5 and 6 students have completed training in becoming Play Leaders. This provided them with the skills and confidence to facilitate the program for younger children.
Today the first small groups of Year 5 and 6 students ran sessions at Pranzo on the oval. Almost 40 children in Foundation and Year 1 and 2 chose to come along and get involved with the games.
We were so impressed by the organisation and leadership skills demonstrated by the leaders and it was wonderful to see the younger students have such a great time getting involved in the games that they were running.
We are proud that so many of our older students have volunteered to use their own break times to get involved with running these sessions and we can already see the huge role that the program will have in building engagement, confidence and relationships between students right across the school.
Play Leaders will continue at Pranzo time on a Wednesday and Thursday each week and we look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.
