Breaksea House News

We’re in Week Seven already and Breaksea House has been travelling well. In the last few weeks, we’ve had many highlights including building a fitness and wellbeing culture, camps galore and a load of birthdays.

Fitness and Wellbeing Culture

As the term has progressed, Breaksea has been working towards building a strong fitness and wellbeing culture. While many of our boarders have great routines that include going to the gym and playing lots of sport, we’re doing our best to make fitness in the house accessible as well. We’ve introduced fitness classes on the big screen in the living room through an online database called FitOn that the students can access at any time. There are yoga/pilates mats available and a space in the living area to follow online instructors whenever the boarders choose. In addition, we’re looking into purchasing some weights and updating our exercise bikes and rowing machines out on the back patio.

Camps Galore

Term One has been full to the brim with camps. Just in the last few weeks, we’ve had the Year Eleven and Twelve Art Camp, the Yalari Scholarship Camp and our Year Ten camps to either the Blackwood River or aboard the Leeuwin Sail Ship. These diverse and unique experiences have done wonders in broadening the educational horizons of our students. While there’s been a lot of tired faces around the house, they have always been accompanied by exciting stories, new ideas and a sense of adventure.

Breaksea Birthdays

Breaksea has been celebrating many birthdays over the last few weeks and we’ve been celebrating in style. There’s been birthday cake and candles, but also presents! The boarders received crafty gifts and stationery as a special gesture from everyone at Breaksea. What was extra sweet was that many of the students then made their crafty gifts and displayed them around the house. My favourite was a little felt teddy that now lives on the couch, which one of our Year Eleven boarders made from the sew-your-own-bear kit she got for her birthday.

Our birthdays so far this year are Amber Pearce, Halle Cosh, Xanthe O'Neill, Amy Medway and Chloe Roberts.

Tutoring Support

The boarders at Breaksea have access to a range of tutoring support during evening prep that occurs between 7.00pm and 8.30pm every evening. We have specialist teachers in Science, Math and English for General and ATAR students alike, available during the week. We also do our best to support as much as we can with study skills and planning. In addition, our academic support team is available every afternoon at the day school.

Leave from Boarding

The boarders in Breaksea have done a great job organising their weeks and weekends in advance and submitting their leave requests the night before leave occurs. This has made the running of the house much more efficient and ensures that everyone is safely accounted for at all times. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are having any issues with approving leave through REACH. To ensure we follow best practice guidelines in Breaksea, we make sure parental approval is obtained before approving leave requests so that parents, guardians, myself and the house supervisors are all on the same page with all student leave.  Thank you for your ongoing support and for entrusting us with the care of your children. As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns, suggestions or would just like to check in and say hello.
