Eclipse House News

All Boys Dinner

Every Tuesday over the past couple of weeks, the Eclipse boys have been joining in with Anchorage in having dinner. The purpose is to create a stronger bond between us and help them out by giving advice for their future boarding career. The afternoons have been filled with laughter and joy consisting of shooting hoops and kicking the footy. Joe Hawke and Trenton Hams were on BBQ duty and altogether it tasted amazing. We have also stayed behind and helped the boys out with homework to ensure they can get in the habit of a good study routine.

Staffing

This term we have recently had two new supervisors join us. Mr Michael Ferreira who originally went to GSG himself, has come back from university to finish his studies here.  He was originally studying Sports Science and now Commerce. Mrs Sally Mellows has also started working in the house. She was originally a Catering Assistant in the Dining Hall so knows most of us already. Overall, they were given a warm welcome and have made lots of positive relationships with the boys. Some of these include cooking biscuits and brownies as an evening treat (Mrs Mellows) and getting us out of the house into town or the gym (Mr Ferreira).

Birthdays

We have recently celebrated Pierce Newman’s 17th and Berkley Somerscales’ 18th birthday this term. These days were filled with lots of fun and excitement and it's great to have another legal adult in the boarding house.

We would also like to make mention of Daniel Fisher who celebrated his birthday in January and Jack Carlson who will turn 17 this week.

Recreation

Recently in Eclipse, the recreation has been great. This past weekend, we went up the Kalgan River in two dinghies, which had many highlights, including fishing and a swim at the bridge. On Sunday, we went out to Mutton Bird Beach with Mr Forward and Mr Colton and shredded some gnarly waves. All the boys had a great time.

Car Maintenance

A weekly activity that we have been working on is fixing up Berkley's 2000 Ford Fairmont. So far, we have changed the oil and filters, as well as fixed the interior.

Tutoring

Every Sunday and Tuesday, Mr Josh Carson has been coming in to help the boys with their studies. He specialises in mathematics and science and has been a valuable resource that many of the boys have taken full advantage of.
