Endeavour House News

Wow, where is this term going?!

Five baby chickens have hatched and are currently living out near the rec shed in a hutch. They will be with Endeavour House for the rest of the term, before finding their new home down at the school farm. One of our rec activity options is tending to the farm on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons, with Mrs Turrill. Some of the Endeavour girls are putting their hands up to help down there, well done to those girls.

The rec shed is looking great and there's been lots of activity in there since ‘the big clean up’ on the long weekend! On Thursday we will be welcoming Breaksea House down to Endeavour House to share a BBQ meal with us, where everyone will also be able to enjoy our refreshed outdoor space.

I would like to mention and acknowledge the work of Miss May Botha and Miss Tiffany Kok, known in Endeavour House as ‘Miss May’ and ‘Miss Tiff’. May and Tiff have come out from South Africa to spend a year at GSG, assisting as GAP students. The girls work around the campus, in various capacities at GSG, but in Endeavour House they assist with prep, rec and supervision. For prep, Tiff is here on Monday and Thursday, May comes in on Tuesday and Wednesday. May and Tiff are super positive role models for the girls and are quickly becoming a much-loved part of our Endeavour family. I really admire the way in which these young people are challenging themselves by leaving their friends and families for a year, for the opportunity to meet new people, learn new things and have some fun ‘down under’. I encourage all Endeavour boarders to take the time to chat with Miss Tiff and Miss May and take a leaf out of their book by ‘getting amongst it’!

On Saturday, Tristan, Tiff, May and myself all spent the day with Denmark Surf Life Saving Club (DSLSC) undertaking our Community Surf Rescue Certificate. This training equips us with the skills and knowledge relating to aquatic safety, rescue and survival techniques, for the purpose of supervising students in both open and closed aquatic environments.

Thank you to GSG for providing us with this opportunity to upskill and to be able to diversify our supervision, for the benefit of the students. Shout out also to Mark Williamson and George Mumford from DSLSC for an awesome day at Ocean Beach! As a result, we took the opportunity to run a structured ocean rec activity, on Sunday, to Boiler Bay at Gull Rock National Park. The kids all enjoyed themselves on the paddleboards and at the same time, they are also learning about water safety. I thank the girls for following the instructions from staff, to ensure everyone is safe and well during these activities and for also washing the bus and equipment afterwards.

Moving forward, the Endeavour girls will start to see more involvement by our House Leaders; Katelin Woithe and Tilly Norrish. The girls have already had lots of thoughts on how they can make a positive impact here in the house, and I congratulate them on a strong start and look forward to all the good things to come.
