Learning about the brain
A focus in wellbeing this year is learning about our fascinating brain. Understanding how the brain works helps us to understand how we process our thoughts and emotions. So often children (and adults!) have big feelings, but they don’t understand what those feelings are. Knowing where our emotions come from and what the brain does can help us to regulate them, increase our emotional intelligence and make better choices.
Level 4 students who have Wellbeing this term have eagerly engaged with learning about the brain. They have blown me away with their enthusiasm and understanding of this topic and the links it has to emotions, learning and general wellbeing also.
I invite you to watch a series of 5 short videos which forms the basis of what Level 2 to 4 students will be learning this year. They explain the brain in a simplistic way and will get you on the same page as the students. I think many adults would find this information interesting and informative for not only their own benefit, but especially for supporting your child/ren to develop self-regulation skills.

Preps have also begun to look at the workings of the brain in a much simpler format. I will share the concepts they will look at in the coming weeks.
