Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

It’s only been a fortnight since our last 5/6 update, but I can assure you that the students have been maximising every moment since that point. In Numeracy, the students are developing their understanding of fractions, decimals, percentages and their interconnected relationships. In Writing, students have been crafting complex arguments to persuade and influence their intended audience (some of which are listed below). Our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships lesson have including exploring character strengths in themselves and others. This was linked with International Women’s Day which explored women of influence and the exceptional contributions that they made to past and present generations. Some of the contribution that these women made were inventing WiFi, pioneering information science and the involvement in the first successful US space flight. It has been a profound two weeks in 5/6 and we look forward to sharing more about our learning in the next update. (Polly W., Ariana A.)

Do you think kids should have a phone?

For 4,000 years humans have been polluting the earth. But believe it or not, phones have been fixing that problem! Don’t think you believe me? Give me a second to explain. I love art, so most of my seconds are me trying to improve, on paper. But if you’re like me, little did you know, eighty-five million tons of paper is wasted each year. Maybe for stupid reasons, who knows. But it gets worse, the average office worker uses four tons of paper per day, half of it is considered waste. Can we make up our mind for once and know what we’re going do so we have no ‘waste’? That’s why I have been doing more digital drawing. Once you get the hang of it, it’s really cool because you can use many colours and pencil leds! You can do so many wonderful things when you do it digitally! There are also so many places online where you could learn, you should give it a go. It’s so unique, a skill you should be proud of! Mostly because you’re saving paper.
