Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours !

The last couple of weeks have flown by in the land of the 3/4s! We have been enormously proud of the way our students have been navigating this term, and in particular this week, how our Grade 3s have handled NAPLAN. What superstars!

Literacy

In Writing, we have dug our teeth into Narratives, creating sizzling starts, exciting endings and everything in between! Classes have focused on VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers & Punctuation) to spark curiosity, add detail and build enjoyment for the reader (and the writer!).

International Women’s Day provided us with the opportunity to focus on female authors and characters as well as influential females of the past and current day. Students loved learning more about women such as Rosa Parks, Malala, Taylor Swift, Michelle Obama and Dr Mae Jemison, to name a few.

Numeracy

We have been using rounding skills to help us make and check estimates when completing addition problems. More recently, we have also been building skills when estimating and measuring length in millimetres and centimetres, including measuring the perimeter of a shape. Students have been learning to be compare lengths written in two different units of measurement. During various challenges and games, students have enjoyed discussing, justifying and explaining the thinking behind their answers.

Respectful Relationships

Research in the field of positive psychology emphasises the importance of identifying and using individual strengths. The ‘Personal Strengths’ unit we are currently focusing on, promotes student wellbeing, positive behaviour and academic achievement. For example, students have been identifying examples of the ways in which team strengths are used in collaborative play and describing characteristics of cooperative behaviour.

Three weeks to go before our Easter holiday break and so much to look forward to!
