RESPECT: Hands-On Learning completed some community work this week.
Students completed some gardening and maintenance around the home of a few of our Torquay residents. We really look forward to continuing to build the strong relationships that were created!
STRIVE: Our Year 8 Students recently travelled to The Geelong Tech School to participate in the Tech Taster Program.
Students were able to immerse themselves in Digital Technologies through expert facilitators and contemporary resources, provided by the Tech School to assist in their programming skills.
RESPECT: Last week, students involved in our Girl In Charge Program were visited by some fantastic women from the different arms of the Victoria Police. They got to hear about life as an officer in the canine unit, the mounted branch and as a general detective. So great to see so many different opportunities within the emergency services!
STRIVE: Every Tuesday, four Year 9 students have been heading to Torquay’s Men’s Shed. The program is a mentor program developed to improve focus on mindfulness needed in the workplace and classroom.
The program demonstrates Occupational Health & Safety skills needed in employment, communication skills, team work, multi generational relationships, hands on application of literacy and numeracy, problem solving and engineering principles. The principles of community development scaffold and support this program.
Mentored weekly by Paul Schmeider, our students have been developing new friendship groups, sharing comradery with shared experiences, as well as enhancing community connections with the College.
Last week as a special activity, under the tutelage of retired jewellery maker Vern, students designed and made their own rings from old spoons! This activity was definitely a hit and the rings looked amazing!

UNITE: Relay For Life will be held locally in Torquay from March 17 to March 18. This is the first of these events since 2019 and supports such a great cause.
Please support our students and this event by registering a team. We look forward to seeing many of our community there!
RESPECT: On Tuesday, our Year 11 Students celebrated as a cohort for their Connect Day.
Featuring guest speakers, a BBQ lunch and a game of wheelchair basketball, this day has been an opportunity for students to connect to their peers, VCE teachers and school.
This aims to allow students to build meaningful connections which will support them through their VCE journey at Surf Coast Secondary College.
FLOURISH : Year 11 Food Studies Students cooking up a storm in the VET Kitchen. Paella was the dish of choice, featuring chorizo and calamari. Looking absolutely delish!
STRIVE: Students in Year 11 Environmental Science have been studying the hydrosphere and water cycle. Here they represented the amount of fresh water in different locations around the world.
UNITE: Year 11 psychology students have been studying the psychological development of an individual. Last week, they have been collecting data for their upcoming SAC based on their key theorist Piaget.
As part of this task, the students tested 3–4-year-olds at Torquay Early Learning Centre and compared the results against data from Year 7 students.
We are so proud of how our students engaged and played with the young children, as well as their positive representation of our College.
Massive thank you to TELC for the partnership!
UNITE: Here are some pictures of our awesome Voc. Major students participating in Clean up Australia Day for schools. They collected 2 big hessian bags and 3 buckets full of rubbish around school and local surrounds. With Peter's Drumsticks sponsoring the event this year, they were very happy to get a Drumstick reward!
Students in the Year 10 General Science classes also participated in Clean up Australia day activities. In total, around 10kg of mainly food and beverage wrappers were picked up throughout the Torquay North Sports precinct and the school grounds!
STRIVE: Year 12 VET Sport and Recreation students have been completing surfing excursions to learn about how to safely run group activities.
