STEAM News

STEAM Week this year had a focus on food, which gave our students the opportunity to eat in a Science laboratory! We made ice cream! This is quite easy to do at home if you wish. Here’s a link to the recipe (https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/ice-cream-in-a-bag/)

It’s quite a workout to make the ice cream, but the result is well worth the effort. I even had some students tell me it was the best ice cream they had ever had and they asked if they go back for seconds! We had a discussion about the difference between our home made ice cream and what you can buy in the shops. This lead to a discussion about roles of different substances in our foods, such as thickeners. This was a really fun (if a bit messy) activity that we may have to repeat next year.
