Library News

Mrs Heather Vassila

As we reach the end of this very challenging term, I would like to say well done to our students for the amazing work they have done for their Library and Bounce Back lessons.

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2022

During the holidays I would still encourage students to engage in reading for pleasure as much as possible.  The benefits of reading are immeasurable, and not just for academic purposes but also for the relaxation of the mind and body.  There are also many benefits of an adult reading to a child.

If children do read, I would encourage them to write down the titles as these can be added to their 2022 Premier’s Reading Challenge list which began on 1st September 2021.

Kindergarten and Year 1

There is no need to write down any of the books that K-1 read as I record all the books that I read to them during library lessons over the course of the year and register all students for a completed certificate.

Year 2

Students in 2J and 2MC may also like to begin writing down all the books they read from now on, as next year they will be logging their own reading list during library lessons.

Years 3 – 5

Students can print a ‘personal reading record log’ from the website at

 Personal Reading Log (det.nsw.edu.au)

If students are unable to print the log, please just use a sheet of paper to write down the book titles, once students have completed the reading of the book.

Year 6

Completing the PRC during Term 4 is optional for year 6.  Many high schools are now encouraging students to complete the challenge, so recording any books they read now gives year 6 a head start on next year.

If you would like more information about the PRC, you can login to the site at

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge 2022 : Home (det.nsw.edu.au)

Please note, the new 2022 information is not uploaded until March 2022, but there is still relevant information about the PRC on the website.

World Book On-line

While a device-free holiday is to be encouraged, please remember that Roselea P.S. has an annual subscription to World book online. This can be accessed by every child at school and by every family at home.

The log-on is:  roselea and the password is:   school

We have four programs to choose from

  1. Early World of Learning
  2.  World Book Kids
  3. World Book Students
  4. E-books

A yellow star indicates that the eBook is also in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.  The eBooks cover a large variety of subjects and there is a range of Early Readers also. Headphones indicate that the book also has a read along feature.  Please encourage your child/children to look at these and enjoy some time reading them.

If your child does read an e-Book, it can be added to their PRC personal reading log.
