Lyons Youth of the Year Award

On Tuesday 2nd March, Kaitlyn Cavanagh and Eva Mason both competed in the Lyons Youth of the Year award. Prior to this evening the students attended an interview in which they were asked for their opinions on a range of contemporary issues and possible solutions.

The students were firstly required to respond to two impromptu questions. The questions they were asked were ‘do you think voting should remain compulsory in Australia?’ and ‘should life skills be covered in secondary school, and if so, what skills?’. Both students were quick on their feet and provided thoughtful and reasoned responses.

After this, Kaitlyn and Eva both presented their pre-prepared speeches. Kaitlyn gave a reflective and thoughtful speech that offered the students’ perspective on remote learning in 2020. Eva presented a powerful and chilling speech on the sexist culture within our Parliament. Much of the audience were blown away by the maturity both Kaitlyn and Eva both demonstrated in their speeches.

In terms of results, Eva won the public speaking award, and Kaitlyn won the overall award. This means that Kaitlyn will progress to the next stage. Both Kaitlyn and Eva were amazing and represented our school in the best possible way. Congratulations Kaitlyn and Eva.

Events reminder

A reminder that events must be paid for and consent provided on Compass 2 days prior to the event. This allows our staff to finalise the event and risk management based on the students attending to make sure our students are always safe, and we meet our duty of care to your child. If consent is not received by the due date students will not be allowed to attend the event.

Term 1 House Day

Tuesday 9th March celebrated our Term 1 House Day and included House Assemblies, House activities in ASPIRE for students to be able to earn House points and activities running at lunchtime.  Students wore their House colours on the day for a $2 donation to the Green Team sustainability club for their work on 'Project Brentwood' and all students wearing their House colours were awarded House points to go towards the end of year House Cup. We would like to congratulate our whole school community for getting involved in their house and the days activities.
