VCAL Leadership Camp
The date was the 22nd of February and the 2021 Intermediate and Senior VCAL students had arrived at school at 8:45 ready for our 2021 Leadership camp to Narmbool. With bags full of camp gear and heads full of excitement we loaded the buses and hit the road ready for anything the teachers had planned for us.
We arrived at Narmbool Lodge at 10am and proceeded to unload the buses and walk down the hill to the lodge for recess. Then straight into it with the year 12 senior VCAL students running indigenous games. We all had an absolute ball and were completely exhausted as we headed back to set up our cabins and have a bite of lunch.
This was followed by a quick walk up to the homestead and the function centre where we started to create our promoting VCAL posters. With these well under way we headed back to the lodge for a short break for afternoon tea. The senior students then went off fishing in the nearby dam on the property and the intermediates were assigned their groups for the scavenger hunt. Without any luck the seniors headed back to the lodge to regroup with the intermediates, before hearing from a few guest speakers who told us about their journey to where they are now.
It was then time for tea, with a room full of hungry teenagers who were soon silenced by the arrival of food. Trivia time was then ran by the seniors which was an absolute blast. Off to bed and a good night sleep had by most.
Up and at ‘em early and ready for another full day of camp. After breakfast we packed and cleaned out our cabins ready for inspection. After every cabin passed inspection, it was back to the homestead to finish and present our posters, then it was time to elect the 2021 senior VCAL captains. With six students in the running it was a close call, and then back to the lodge for lunch and to announce the leaders - Abbie Britton and Jake Clarke are our 2021 VCAL Captains. We then travelled back to school and home.
Everyone had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who had a part in organising this camp.
