School for Student Leadership

Hi, my name is Connor and I am currently attending the School for Student Leadership (SSL) near Marlo. Snowy River Campus is a selective nine-week program specifically for year 9’s. This program offers a unique educational residential experience and focuses on personal development and building basic life skills. I was given the opportunity to attend last year's selection process and I was lucky enough to be chosen along with two other boys (Will and Austyn) and three girls (Haylee, Amity and Marley).

We participate in lots of outdoor activities and so far, we have done things like surfing, mountain bike riding, bridge building, indigenous studies, and canoeing. We are also preparing to go on our expo where we go hiking and camping for a night. We also do lots of collaborative learning with everyone to help us become better leaders while also making it fun and engaging for everyone.

While we are here at Snowy, we conduct a project that we will then undertake in our local community. Each school group here chooses a topic on what they want to help improve in their local community. The group from Ballarat High School is focusing on helping the homeless. Our vision is to help give the homeless access to everyday supplies to help give them the same opportunities as us. We have been planning for a few weeks now and have a good idea on what we can do to achieve our goal. We will be doing updates every two weeks and you will be able to see these updates through the BHS newsletter.

Thanks for reading, I will keep in touch with how our project progresses.
