Artful Writing

After a year of uninspired, lonely days in my bedroom last year (thanks to COVID), I can tell you, I was extremely grateful to be invited to go to the Ballarat Art Gallery last week for a writing workshop!

Being able to explore through the gallery’s unique variety of paintings inspired us to write a short story based upon an artwork of our choosing. We applied wonderful words, alliterations and types of stunning sentence structure into our writing to create and expand on our own style of writing.

One of my favourite parts of the workshop was being able to spend time with friendly, like-minded people and work with them to improve our writing through unique,  creative tasks.

The writing pieces we created were decorated with the crafts at hand, along with a photograph of the artwork that inspired us.

Hearing people present their work was a lot of fun, as it showed what the day amounted to.

Thank you to Amanda McGraw, Pauline O’Shannessy-Dowling and Kate Gorman, as well as the Art Gallery of Ballarat and Federation University for this opportunity. Our writing pieces were not the only thing we took away from this trip, we also took away experience, a couple of new friends and a fresh new perspective for the rest of the year.
