XANADU

School Production Update
The Xanadu tribe have been back in full swing these last few weeks! We've been busy rehearsing our opening numbers to the show, 'I'm Alive' and 'Magic'.
Our opening number is set on the sunny streets of Venice, California at the dawn of the 1980s. The scene is filled with clientele you'd expect in 1980s LA - locals checking out the beach, tourists snapping pictures, business people reading the Wall Street Journal and talking on their enormous mobile phones, some punks who were probably at a concert all night, construction workers, an ice cream salesman and even a police woman trying to keep those shady punks in line. Among them is Sonny (Darcy Rowntree), a frustrated street artist who is on the brink of giving up on his career. Suddenly, his painting of 'Ancient Greek arty chicks', comes to life, revealing to us Clio (Caitlin Serong) and the other Greek Muses (Willow McConchie, Jess Carden, Tobi Phillips, Tyler Borg, Rebecca Clark and Josh Clark) who decide to take it upon themselves to inspire Sonny to continue creating art and 'fulfil his destiny'.
Everyone, from chorus, to featured chorus to lead roles, have been working hard to perfect those harmonies and get those dance breaks looking sharp.
While Mr Bleakley and Ms Cumming have been overseeing everything, Miss Wells has been teaching the vocal parts for the songs, while our choreography team of Rebecca Clark, Tiffany Couacaud and Em Artis (both Class of 2018), ably backed up by dance captains Molly Keyhoe and Caitlin Atwill have been honing those movements and bringing the piece to life on stage. Add in some scene work produced by our Assistant Director Jesse Hone (Class of 2017) and you can see we've got a great team both on and off the stage.
Thanks to families for encouraging their children to get involved and picking them up after Monday and Thursday rehearsals.
We do remind parents to keep an eye on email communication and students to keep track of our Google Classroom and Google site. We're looking forward to what coming rehearsals can produce.
