Welcome to Week 10!

National Young Leaders Day - 2021

On Thursday 25th March 2021 our School Captains and Sports Captains had the opportunity to attend the Halogen National Young Leaders Day with Miss O’Shea. This annual event was held at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour, Sydney.

The aim of the day is to inspire students to make a positive contribution to school and to motivate students to be great leaders in their area of influence. It also aims to empower students with the practical skills of balancing study, school commitments and social activities in their daily lives. The day is underpinned by inspirational and positive role models who share their stories, personal achievements and views on leadership.

Our School Captains have provided us with an overview of the speakers and their messages to the young leaders in attendance.

Lachie Smart

He was a very interesting speaker and travelled around the globe in 5 months (152 days) when he was 18. Wow!  He acquired several sponsors which funded his 500k journey. He had challenges throughout the trip such as: storms, failed electronics and almost getting arrested. Lachie’s message was ‘to use past knowledge to make better decisions in the future and no goal is out of reach - just persevere!’

Anastasia Woolmer

She is a two-time Australian memory champion who studied ballet and contemporary dance. She became a professional dancer that travelled all around Australia displaying her talent. Then she stopped her dancing career and studied neuropsychology and became an memory champion and starred on the television series, ‘Survivor’. Anastasia’s message was ‘to focus on yourself, don’t compare yourselves to others and work hard at what you want!’

Jimmy Rees aka Jimmy Giggle

He said to be yourself, be honest and chase your goals no matter how silly they may seem. Jimmy’s message was ‘if you have a dream, follow it, be honest and tell people who support you of your goals!’

David Campbell

He came from humble beginnings and didn’t know his parents. But when he found out that his dad was Jimmy Barnes, everyone at his school expected him to be a great singer or a rock star. He felt torn between the expectations people had of him. David’s message was to ‘be who you want to be not what people expect from you’ and ‘don’t follow the crowd, be your own person!’

Brooke Madden

It was an amazing experience to listen to all the speakers and learn new things and listen to  great messages.

Mia Gardner

It was an outstanding opportunity and an experience of a lifetime. The messages, I will keep with me and think about forever.

Lachie Joosen

It was good because all of the messages throughout the day were great! It was a once in a lifetime experience and I will remember this moment forever.

Mason Visser

It was great because the messages gave me ideas on how to be a good leader.

Lily Stewart

The day was great! It was so inspiring!

Alex Dawson

It was really good and had great messages for everyone.

Malachy McKenzie

National Young Leaders Day was inspiring, engaging and fun! All the speakers gave us great messages for everyday life and what it takes to be a good leader.

All of us can’t wait to teach the rest of the school the ‘Learning Is Fun Dance’ from the day this week!

Thank you to Miss O’Shea for organising and accompanying the students to the National Young Leaders Day. A special thank you to our wonderful school leaders for being such outstanding ambassadors for our school and their parents and carers for their valuable support and assistance on the day and leading up to this very worthwhile event.

The term is fast approaching its end.  I would like to wish all the children, parents/carers and staff a happy, safe holiday break with family and friends. I look forward to another busy and productive Term 2.

Regards,

Greg O'Toole
