TOP ARTS 2023 EXCURSION

On Monday 20 March, our Units 3/4 Art Creative Practice students embarked on an enriching journey to The Ian Potter Centre in Fed Square. Students had the privilege of viewing the highly anticipated Top Arts 2023 exhibition.

The exhibition showcased the exceptional talents of several high-performing students who studied Units 3/4 Studio Arts and Art in 2022 throughout Victoria. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with art in a meaningful way and gain valuable insights and ideas that will inspire and benefit their own creative practices.

As well as engaging with the collection of artworks on display, our students participated in a folio viewing, where they were encouraged to explore the creative processes and techniques of each exhibiting student.

Thoughts from one of our Year 12 ACP students, Jack Francis:

Our viewing of the selected works from Top Arts 2023 provided us with a variety of perspectives from varying artists and art forms. It was a valued opportunity allowing us to see how students expressed themselves, their cultures and personalities.

From traditional paintings of intricate detail, photographs of fashion and self-expression, to a 'series of increasingly useless jugs' (yes, that was the title), it was a privilege to view a range of bodies of work by students just like us!

The classes also had a unique opportunity to witness the Ian Potter Centre being prepared for an upcoming major exhibition, titled Melbourne Now, gaining a sneak preview of some of the captivating gallery spaces being set up for the event.

During the excursion, our students completed an Art scavenger hunt, where they captured photos of the most intriguing and distinctive artworks they could find, and tried to link their favourite artworks with key concepts from the ACP Study. Overall, the Top Arts exhibition was an awe-inspiring experience, which our students can now utilize to fuel their own creative practices back at McKinnon.
