CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As the year continues to be full of fun, with lots of exciting events, the Year 12s had their first English SAC of the year. 369 students headed into the Hall to complete their final ever creative English task. The feeling of nerves and excitement filled the air as we entered the Hall. One hour later we had all finished, relieved with one more SAC done.

The next week the talk of the Year 12 formal was amongst the year level and who would win the inaugural formal awards. We had many award winners but no one could go past our final award of the “most inspirational person” and that went to none other than Shuban Balamurugan. The reception from the room was incredible with a standing ovation as he was presented his award. It was a spectacular night, arriving at Merrimu with the entire year level dressed up and looking stunning, the energy high. As soon as we entered some of the best dance moves were put on show, with Ethan Tran taking out the best dancer of the night.

Finally, the annual House Basketball Competition took place this week in incredible style. The Grand Final was played on Friday 17 March between Monash and Gilmore.

Kieran Wall (Year 11) put a few three pointers into the basket late in the game which secured Monash as House Basketball Champions for 2023.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

It’s crazy to think about how fast this term has gone with less than three weeks left.

Over at the East Campus, a lot has continued to happen. The Year 9s commenced NAPLAN and completed their final NAPLAN test on Tuesday 21 March. I commend everyone for their efforts.

On Thursday 9 March, at the East Campus, there was the smoking ceremony that was held to open the Kummargee - Rise Up program for the Year 8s. The ceremony was conducted by Kobi Sainty from the Bunurong Land Council.

He explained the important purpose of the smoking ceremony and how the ceremony was conducted to clean away any bad energy and welcome everyone to their country. It was a wonderful way to bring our East Campus community together and it also teaches us the importance of the connection we have with the environment and community. I thank Kobi for coming and assisting us with the smoking ceremony and I also thank all the teachers and students who took part in this ceremony.

Furthermore, the Year 9s at the East Campus are busily preparing for their iDecide Election which will be held on Friday 24 March. We have been spending weeks preparing for this election and I wish all classes the best of luck!

I am honored to have been chosen as a Junior Captain and I am extremely excited for a great year ahead.
