Numeracy City Trip

Year 11 VCAL

Year 11 VCAL are currently completing their final unit for the year – Recreation. They have been studying scheduling, public transport apps and timetables and the numeracy associated with planning trips around Australia, including accommodation costs and travelling across time zones.

This unit includes a two-day excursion to Melbourne City. The first day included an Amazing Race experience with Urban Quest which saw the students race around Melbourne CBD finding clues. The winners were Zeek, Rory, Luke and Tarkyn who successfully solved all the clues in the shortest time. They received an Urban Quest trophy for their efforts.

In the afternoon the students undertook activities that they had planned which included a Yarra River Walk, Glo Golf, Botanical Gardens walks and Eureka Skydeck.

The second day will include a numeracy activity which asks the students to demonstrate numeracy aspects of the Shot Tower and Glass Cone at Melbourne Central, the geometry of historical arcades and calculating and estimating distances in the CBD to name a few.

These activities are prerequisite skills and knowledge that the students will need for planning their Sydney trip in 2023.
