Hello Foundation Families!

Firstly, just a reminder that the consent and payment form for our Zoo Excursion is live on Compass! Please complete this at your earliest convenience as we need to confirm numbers with the Zoo.

In classroom news, our students have been working very hard on hearing and finding rhyming words in different texts. Thank you to all the families who are bringing their Home Reader to school each day to swap. Instilling a love of reading at home is a great way to support your child’s learning.

Maths has continued to be very hands-on, with lots of sharing activities. We have introduced Money Play, where children have explored different types of money and made their own unique shops. The children have loved creating their own items and using money manipulatives to explore selling and buying.

In Integrated Studies, the students have been learning about how individuals and groups impact the environment in both positive and negative ways. The students have created different slogans to help protect the environment and explore how we can look after the environment here at school.

Wishing you all a relaxing weekend from the Foundation Team!

Grade 1

On Thursday 3rd November, the Grade 1’s went on an excursion to the Queen Victoria Market as part of our Integrated Studies topic, ‘Healthy Bodies & Minds’. We were very grateful that the rain held off for the day, so we were able to roam around without getting wet!

We rode the tram down Sydney Road, which was lots of fun especially for some students who hadn’t experienced this before.

There were lots of different healthy foods to see as we walked around the market and students were able to learn the names of a few interesting ones they didn’t already know. We also talked about the importance of maintaining a balanced diet containing mostly healthy foods and ‘sometimes’ foods. The Grade 1’s were then able to practise this by buying mostly healthy food around the market stalls and lots of people chose a famous donut as their ‘sometimes’ food.

It was an awesome experience for all the students! The Grade 1’s were also very excited to have Maria, Hana, Lauretta and Lisa with them for the day - thank you for helping the team!

We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Grade 1 Team :)

Grade 2

Hi Year 2 Families and Carers,

Last week was only a 3 day week but we still managed to squeeze in a bit of fun!

In our Mathematics lessons, we played a game of Battleship in order to learn how to use grid coordinates. We spent time using our treasure maps to familiarise ourselves with reading maps and following directions to find the X on the map. Then we studied a map of the school and developed our navigation skills to learn how to direct a partner from one location to another in the playground. We spoke about the cardinal directions - north, east, south and west. We enjoyed trying to orient ourselves from one position on a map to another e.g. “Go north 10 steps.” We had a fantastic time.

More recently in Mathematics, the focus has been on symmetry and transformation of 2D shapes. We are learning to use the terms ‘flip, turn and slide’ to transform a 2D shape as well as find the line of symmetry in shapes and everyday objects. The Yr 2’s have enjoyed creating ‘shape strips’ as well as use body movements to demonstrate how a shape can transform.

Our writing focus has been on persuasive texts and this week’s focus has been to write a persuasive letter to someone about a topic of our choice. There have been some great pieces of writing that are very convincing.

Let’s keep up the great work, Year 2!

Visual Art

The MPS 2022 Art Show was a huge success!

Thank you so much to all of the parents, carers and extended family for showing your support for the young artists of Moreland Primary School.

Thanks to the students for putting in a great effort in Visual Art this year as well!
