Acting Leader of Learning and Teaching Will Lyon

Hello there MCC community,

Happy week seven! Discussions around the staffroom this week remarked at how quickly this term is progressing. Since our last newsletter our MCC learners have been continuing their march towards the end of the term.

Year 10 have commenced minimum standards testing which will provide staff, students and parents with an excellent snapshot of how students are progressing with core learning skills of numeracy, reading and writing. Additionally, it provides excellent data on how best to support our students as they transition into stage 6 in 2023.

Teachers are in the process of concluding their professional learning teams for 2022. After an exciting 14 cycles of PLT in 2022 they have developed their approaches to teaching and learning in a collaborative and effective manner. Discussions focused on the positive impact of PLT in 2022 and suggested approaches for 2023. The Gr8 thinking team in particular are quite excited for new learning opportunities in 2023. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the efforts of the Gr8 thinking team for 2022 – Rebecca Jensen, Andrew Keady, Domenica Abdala, Gabriel Abdala, Lora Segrave and Damien Herb. Their professionalism and dedication are a testament to the high-quality teaching afforded to our students at MCC and a demonstration of how our staff continue to push the envelope in advancing teaching and learning at the College.

Stage 4 and 5 teachers are currently finishing off junior reports before the review process commences. These reports are a culmination of year of learning and teaching for our students at MCC as such they do take a considerable amount of time to complete as each reflects the professional judgement of your child’s teacher. When they are released I strongly recommend you read through them carefully and discuss with your children on what they could aim to improve in 2023.
