Grade 1/2

Our excursion to the Community Raingarden

Last Friday, Grade 1 and 2 students walked down to the Warrandyte Community Raingarden to view our artworks and enjoy the space.

We listened to a story and looked at artwork that was created by a local Wurundjeri artist before having some free play to explore the many activities within the garden.

Some of the favourites were sitting in the teepee, reading a book from the peace library, finding the handmade rocks in the creek bed, looking at the totem poles, playing with the pinecones and drawing on the camel chalkboards.

Grade 1 and 2 were also delighted in being able to spot their own artworks within the space, finding the rocks that they painted for the project that have now been installed in the Raingarden.

After exploring the gardens, we stopped for lunch and listened to some more stories in the yarn circle before walking back to school.

“My favourite part was finding the rocks we painted” said Paddy, “ I liked all of it, even the walk”, said Jasper, “I loved the bushes and the stories”, said Pip.

Many thanks to all of the parents who came to help - it was a fun outing for all.
