Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships

Congratulations to Kaylah Barrett who competed for St. Peter's College at the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne. The events took place over the last two weekends in the city and encompassed all the schools from throughout Victoria. Kaylah competed in the 400m and the 200m. She raced well in her heat of the 400m and qualified for the final. She finished in eighth place in the state for this event. Kaylah raced over the 200m last weekend and just missed out on a finals berth. She finished in 9th place. Race times for both events were very close to Personal Bests.

Congratulations Kaylah, on representing St. Peter's College so well.

10 Art - Oil Paintings

Over the past couple of weeks the year 10 Art students have been working on creating Landscapes paintings using oil paint on canvas. Students demonstrated many skills including their ability to problem solve through colour theory and mixing, as well as how to generate different surface textures with the brushes. The effort and dedication these students have put into their work is evident in their success, especially considering that these skills are new to them. For most students, this is their first ever painting on canvas due to the lockdowns over the past two years. Considering that, the students have been willing to try new techniques and processes and it has been a pleasure  to see their dedication to producing quality work and the joy they took in their success.

"From the College Archives"

As the saying goes, ‘Time flies.’ Can you remember what happened five years ago?

Richmond won the AFL Premiership; Rekindling won the Melbourne Cup and Australia regained The Ashes in the 2017-18 cricket season.

Closer to home, here at St. Peter’s College, there were also several noteworthy events that occurred involving students at the Clyde North Campus.

Two such events occurred late in the year. The first was the completion of the purpose-built Year 9 Building. The building was specifically designed to accommodate the learning needs of Year 9 students who follow a slightly different curriculum to other year levels. The building was designed to provide classrooms, breakout spaces and several larger areas where large numbers of students can gather to be addressed or partake in large group activities. Year 9 students were first able to use the building during the Headstart period of the year, i.e., mid- to late November.

The other noteworthy event was the attendance of students at Australian Catholic Youth Festival. The Archdiocese of Sydney hosted the event from December 7th-9th 2017. The festival launched the Year of Youth, celebrating ten years from when Australia hosted World Youth Day, 2008.

Seven students from both the Cranbourne and Clyde North campuses attended the festival. Mr. Roger Hampson and, the then, Miss Janelle McRae accompanied the students. The Rock reports that some 19,000 young people from around Australia accepted the bishops’ invitation to attend the festival.

The Rock also reports that the staff and students attended a workshop on liturgy that was presented by the then Bishop of Sale, Patrick O’Regan. In a fitting finale to ACYF17 some 15,000 people gathered in Sydney’s Domain for the final Mass which the staff and students attended.

These two events highlight the efforts of St. Peter’s College to educate the whole person: academically and spiritually. Over the last twenty-eight years, St. Peter’s College has endeavoured to provide students with the best possible facilities and numerous opportunities to have enriching experiences.
