Newlands New Buildings

Several issues ago, we published several photos of the new buildings emerging on the school site in 2023. There have been some enquiries to elaborate on what we can expect in 2023.

Top Photo

This is the entrance to the school from Elizabeth Street. This will act as the main entrance to the Gym and Admin building.

Second two Photos

These two views are from street level. The photo on the left shows a view of the entrance from a different angle. The image on the right is a view of the Gym from street level.

Photo Three

This is a bird's eye view of the whole school site. The buildings on the right are the new buildings - Admin, Gym and the two learning worlds. The buildings shaded in grey are currently existing - F/1 wing, 2/3 wing, our temporary Admin/staffroom and Building 'C'. The buildings shaded grey will be refurbished and reused. The current F/1 wing will be refurbished as a staffroom, Visual Arts, and STEAM. The current 2/3 wing will be refurbished as our library. The light beige-coloured area is currently our staff carpark; this will be a new playground. The temporary admin/staffroom will be converted into a performing arts space adjoining the existing student toilet block and refurbished as a music space.

Last two photos

The photo on the left is the 'collaborative spaces that wrap around the open courtyard at the centre of the two learning worlds. These collaborative spaces join with the double teaching spaces outlined in the photo on the left. The learning worlds will also have student toilets that will also be accessible from the playground.

The green areas around the learning worlds and Building 'C' will be landscaped into passive areas and active game spaces.

This is a massive improvement in facilities at Newlands Primary School and will provide the community with 21st-century learning environments, something we have been striving to have at Newlands Primary School. While we will still need to operate with Building 'C' as part of the overall provision of facilities, this building will also receive a makeover in line with modern teaching practice.
