From Julie's Desk ....

Welcome to 2023. The school is buzzing with excitement:  Preps are in their crisp new uniforms with school bags bigger than they are, the Year 6s are sporting their Year 6 jackets, children are reconnecting with friends, parents are socialising, children are playing on the amazing playgrounds, teachers are getting to know their new students, everyone is opening new stationery and setting up their space so that they are ready to learn.  Teachers are co-constructing whole class agreements to help everyone to be clear on behaviour and expectations and everyone has settled into learning routines.  All this and it is only Week 1!

Just a couple of reminders

At Croydon Hills we pride ourselves on students wearing full uniform at all times. This includes polo tops with the CHPS logo, plain socks, no make-up or nail polish, shoulder length (and below) hair tied back, neutral small sleeper earrings, watches or SOS watches only.  Please refer to our Uniform P olicy for more information. If you are experiencing hardship, please contact me Julie.reid2@education.vic.gov.au for support.

Attendance

All children residing in Victoria aged between 6 and 17 years of age are required to attend school full time unless a formal exemption is granted.  Daily attendance is essential to ensure that children have the best opportunity to learn and continue to consolidate their learning.  If your child is unwell or going to be absent, please log it on Compass, including the reason for their absence.  Please note that Parent Choice is not a DET-approved absence - any time taken for purely personal reasons should be flagged with the Principal for approval.  As per our Attendance Policy, classroom teachers will be following up absences in the first instance.

E Safety

As we all know it is so important to have conversations with children about how to be safe online. Yesterday the Brainstorm Theatre Company presented a play to the Year 5 and 6 students to highlight the importance of them always talking to trusted adults about anything that they are not sure of online. For more information about the messages conveyed, please see the Wellbeing and Culture page. For more information about what you can do to support your children, please visit the E Safety Commissioner website.

Until next time,

Julie Reid  -  Assistant Principal, Wellbeing and Inclusion
