Whole School Literacy News

Dawn Heldt

With Term 1 almost up and going, I thought it would be timely to fill you in on current Literacy news.

We will start a new reading initiative in the library before school starts (8.30-8.45 a.m.); (Modelled Reading) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This initiative allows students who need extra reading practice to improve their reading skills. We have a large collection of books and are fortunate to have a multicultural community. We have a wide variety of parents and students of different nationalities, with varying degrees of English. English may be learned/taught in different ways depending on where you were born. This is an opt in initiative and students need not sign in to read. If interested they walk in, pick up a book, read to, read silently or read to a buddy/teacher.

The Staff at St. John’s ask all parents to continue to work with us by encouraging your child to read for at least 15-30 minutes per day.

Thank you for your support with your child’s learning.
