Library Borrowing

Although students are not present at school every day as yet,  they are still able to access the school library on the day they come in to school. Simply bring in your library bag and let you teacher know you would like to borrow some library books. If returning books, these will be placed into a tub to be cleaned before being returned to the shelves.

Accessing Oliver

Our library system is known as Oliver.

It may be accessed in two ways.

1.  By students clicking on the 'waffle' or 9 dots in the top right corner of their Google page and scrolling down until they find the library icon  and clicking on it;  or

2. https://library.arm.catholic.edu.au/oliver/login/

Both ways will take you to the home page for the Armidale Diocese. You MUST then choose St Joseph's West Tamworth from the drop down.

SORA, World Book Online and the Premier's Reading Challenge are all available from our school home page as direct links.

Book Club

Scholastic have made book club ordering still possible for students while remote learning. This term, book club will be online. To access the catalogue, please click the link https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/or copy and type into your browser.

Books will still be delivered to the school as usual and you will be notified they have arrived. Payments may still be made online via LOOP, by Qkr or by cash paid to the school.

The current catalogue orders need to be completed by MAY 18.

Children's Book Council of Australia

Shortlisted books for these prestigious awards have recently been announced.  We are fortunate that many of these books are already in our library and I look forward to sharing some of these.

Electronic Borrowing-SORA

Ebooks are a great option for students. Our library system- Oliver- is accessible to all students using their school login details. Part of our catalogue are ebooks which students may download onto their own devices for use at home. These books are automatically returned which means no overdue books! I encourage students to browse the ebooks in Oliver.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Challenge is well equipped to support student participation from home. The following adjustments have been applied to the Challenge in 2020:

  • Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books - an increase from five. The codes needed to add these choice books are 685957; 685958; 685959; 685960 and 685961.
  • Students on all Challenge levels will be able to include books on their reading records that they read collaboratively as a class, in person or online with their teacher or at home with their parents/carers.

All students have  their login details for the Challenge. Primary students are able to upload their own data. Students in Kinder and Stage 1 are able to keep a log and I will enter these when we are all able to return to school.

Parents of infants (K -2) students who wish to input their childs' books to the Challenge may do so and it will be appreciated.

While we only have one Stage 2 student who has completed the Challenge so far for this year; I look forward to seeing many others complete it shortly as many are only a few books off. With the changes made to adding Choice books, this chould happen a little more easily.

The Reading Challenge concludes 28th August.
