The Learning Zone - Mrs Holland, Leader of Pedagogy/Assistant Principal

Today we welcomed back the Kindergarten students for a day of learning at school.  It was refreshing to have them back and lovely to see their excitement as they saw their beautiful, new learning space.  We are looking forward to seeing the students from Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 on their allocated days this week.

Reading at Home

Reading has always been an important skill and in our modern world it is more important than ever. Children learn about the importance of reading at school but also when they see family members use reading for everyday purposes.

Reading with your child will help them in many learning areas at school.  There are many ways to share reading and writing at home in everyday life – reading for pleasure, sharing a story with your child, following a recipe, making a shopping list, writing a birthday card or reading street signs. This teaches them that reading and writing are useful skills in today’s world.

The time your child spends on reading texts at home will vary according to the age of the child, however, a guide would be:

10-15 minutes per day in Infants classes (Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2)

20 minutes in Years 3 and 4

30 minutes or more in Years 5 and 6
