HSIE

It has been a year with very few excursions due to COVID-19 restrictions, however the following field trips took place:
- Year 10 Commerce visited Charles Sturt University, TAFE Riverina and Woolworths.
- Year 11 Legal Studies visited Wagga Courthouse and Year 12 Society and Culture visited a Buddhist Monastery.
Each excursion focused on enhancing classroom learning through practical experiences; giving students insight on what they learnt, placed into action.
Year 11 Geography students have been testing soil to find out its composition and PH. Students obtained soil samples from around the College and then added soap and water to the sample in the jar. The speed at which sediment particles settled was measured allowing students to see how the sediment layers were formed.
Other experiments included wetting and rolling the soil to see how much clay it obtained and measuring the PH which varied around the college.
Year 9 students were also able to try the environment activity when looking at fragile environments. They were given a biscuit and toothpick and asked to mine the choc chip out of the biscuit. The activity gave no instructions about having to put the biscuit back together and some of the students demolished the biscuit. The second activity they were informed that they would have to restore the biscuit and as a result more care was taken in extracting the choc chips.
