Wellbeing

Last week Year 9 set out on their annual camp at Somerset on the beautiful Colo river. Upon arrival, we were struck by challenging wet weather conditions that lasted throughout the day. Luckily, however, the weather slowly cleared up for the days to come. We then split into our groups and met up with our Somerset camp leaders and teachers. With no time to waste, we set out to our campsites where we packed our rucksacks, filled up our water bottles, and got ready for the day. Groups were then set up with different activities. These varied from fun activities such as archery, milk-crate stacking, and high-ropes to much more tiring activities which included the day-long hike or canoeing. Nevertheless, all these activities helped the boys push themselves in some way such as a tiring 6-hour hike or overcoming a fear of heights on the high-ropes, whilst being able to have fun and build relationships with their peers, teacher, and camp leader. The teachers who came along were able to participate in these activities and all the boys enjoyed having them around to talk to and have a fun time with. While the mud, rain, and mosquitoes kept on coming, many of the boys were pushed to the limit however, all the boys were able to persevere and laugh it off with their mates, continuing to have a great time. I’m sure all the boys had fun at camp hanging out with their mates and made memories they’ll hang onto for the time to come. Lastly, I’d like to thank the Somerset staff and teachers who volunteered to spend some time away from their families to come with the boys and make camp a fun and memorable experience.
