An Overview of our Learning

This term, for our Inquiry unit we have been learning about the land and the sky!

In this unit of study, the Year 1 students have investigated the changes that occur in the sky (including night and day) and why these changes occur.

Students have been learning how the Earth’s resources are used in a variety of ways, in particular water. Students have been introduced to the Earth’s water cycle and have had discussions around this valuable resource.

Throughout the remainder of this term students will be exploring the following questions and will continue to participate in activities to help extend their learning further.

  • What resources do humans and other animals need to survive?
  • What do we use water for?
  • Where does water come from?
  • Why should we care for water?
  • How can we use water wisely?

Student of the Week!

Take Home Readers

Take home readers reflect what sound has been taught or is currently being taught within the classroom. Reading the InitiaLit readers will consolidate those concepts. Once your child has read them, please feel free to encourage your child to read other books of interest. Please remind your child that take home readers get changed on a Monday and need to be returned to school on Friday.

In the InitiaLit readers you will find at the beginning sounds to practice. And once you have read the story with your child, you can check for understanding by asking them the comprehension questions at the back.

If it is possible, please read with your child nightly.
