A focus upon Teaching and Learning

School Wide Teaching and Learning

In each edition of our school newsletter, we share with our community an insight into the curriculum being taught within our classrooms. This reflects our school's strong focus upon continuous improvement.

Each edition covers a different area of the curriculum, and is supported by our school-wide approaches to teaching and learning.

Within the year level pages of this newsletter, we provide you with an overview of the amazing learning which has been occurring across our Inquiry units this term. Please take the time to look over the images which appear to support the content from each level.

The Importance of Evidence-Based Literacy

“The reading wars are bizarre because the evidence behind how reading should be taught is so one-sided... Overwhelmingly, it tells us that phonics must be explicitly and systematically taught within a literacy program that also develops their language and reading habits."- NSW Education Minister- Sarah Mitchell

As referenced in previous newsletter articles, we have been selected as one of only ten schools Australia-wide to partake in an evidence-based three year research trial with Macquarie University; with the focus upon developing literacy in the middle years.

As the only Victorian school to have been selected, we hope that the Victorian Government will also begin to look at the 'science' of reading, and help to bring our state schools into line with the world's best practice.

At this point in time, we are paving the way for what we have already proven will raise the bar for the students of our school.
