Secondary Presentation Awards
Principals Address
Welcome to all students and staff and a special welcome to our returning Year 12 students. It is a great disappointment that we were not able to have our parents/carers, community members and special guests from partnership organisations here with us today, as we have in pre-COVID times. The fact that we are able to have all Secondary students and staff together here, in our school hall, to celebrate high expectations, excellence and equity is wonderful.
What a year, yet here we are celebrating many achievements. I am so proud of all of you. The resilience and determination that has been demonstrated by students and staff to ensure that we have been able to continue on is remarkable and deserving of a clap.
To our teaching and support staff and Executive staff thank you for your commitment to our beautiful kids. You have been superstars during the challenges that 2021 has thrown us. Please go home next week and have a very well earned break. You really do deserve it. Mr Lloyd, the best wing-man anyone could ever have. Please accept my sincere thanks. Your never ending pursuit of excellence and equity for our students and their families is an inspiration to us all.
Let’s focus on 2021. At Guyra Central School we will be changing how we go about our business. Some students for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 have elected to continue their learning in the Big Picture Education Academies, not everyone learns the same way. At Guyra Central School we are working hard to provide opportunities for all students to learn how they learn best, demonstrate their learning through their preferred learning modes. Whether you are working in mainstream classrooms or within the Big Picture Academies we will maintain high expectations for your learning and behaviour. Attendance will also continue to be of great importance during 2021. Coming to school and contributing to a productive culture is a privilege and a responsibility. This is your school and I hope that during 2021 you will understand that you come to school to improve your opportunities to control what you do in your own life and to develop the skill that you require to make choices.
Thank you to all of you, well most of you, for your mature attitude to the introduction of VONDR phone pouches. It really is great to walk around the school during breaks and see you looking at each other and talking to each other or participating in physical activities. During 2021 we will continue to work together to ensure that maximum learning is happening in our classrooms. Thanks to our staff and parents for their contribution to support our students for a successful transition to a digital detox at Guyra Central School during Term 4 2020.
We have welcomed new staff to the school during 2021. Today I would like to let you know that we are saying goodbye to a long standing staff member of the school. Mrs. Dolby would you like to take the stage with me please? You have provided learning opportunities and support for a considerable time. I would like to say thank you from the school and extended school community. Students and staff at Guyra Central School will miss you as you transition into retirement. We wish you all the best with everything that you do into the future. Thanks for your contribution to the school.
To our Year 12 students, I hope that you have been having fun. Next week you will have your results for the HSC. Good luck from all of us with that and with everything that you start next year. We miss you all already.
Please stay safe over the school break everyone. The school will close next Wednesday 16th December 2020. Staff and students finishing on the same day. To our 10 staff who are travelling to the central coast for the entirety of Week 10, travel safely. Our staff are travelling to Big Picture Education Training before commencing in their Academies 2020.
Merry Xmas everyone and a Happy New Year to everyone. Spend some much deserved time with your family and friends. Travel safely if you are going away. I am looking forward to catching up in the New Year. Thanks to our great Guyra Community for their continued support for us here at Guyra Central School.
