Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your support again this year for the Edu-dance program. The energy of our teachers and enthusiasm of our students is great to see.

Congratulations to years 1/2, Room 10 on their assembly. There were some fantastic recycling messages as well as a skit involving two administrators and a pigeon. A wonderful effort by everyone!

MORNING TEA:

Staff had anticipated putting on a Morning Tea for our Parent/Community helpers on Wednesday, 11 November however with the year we have had staff have decided to postpone the morning tea for a week. It will be held over an extended recess on WEDNESDAY 18 November between 10:55am-11:30pm and is open to all parents/volunteers as we have very much appreciated your support for the many things you have assisted the school with this year including: Home Schooling, class help, excursion help, work on the P&C and School Board, volunteering or working in the Canteen, busy bees and transport to events like music, Numero and PEAC.

If you are free and in the area, please come along to the school on Wednesday 18 November. Staff will put on the morning tea for you. To assist with catering please call the office and let them know you will be available.

Congratulations to our Athletics team who were placed second at the recent Interschool carnival. Well done also to our Maths teams representing the school in the Numero competition held against a number of schools in the Region.

Our younger students benefited from two excellent incursions recently, one was on Water Safety and the other was a visit from an author. A police talk to schools for older students on graffiti was also undertaken.

Students have provided some wonderful ideas for possible playground equipment for an area we are keen on developing on the Wood Street side of the school. Some parents have also offered their support. If you are also keen to give us some ideas or have seen some equipment in a current playground setting that you would like us to look at, please contact me.

At our recent P&C meeting we discussed the 120th anniversary and the confirmation of a Fete to be held in November 2021. A number of other activities are planned including a White Gum Valley cook book. A committee has been set up to look at not only a fete but also a reunion for former students which will occur a few weeks before the fete. As more information becomes available we will share it with families.

The Camp Out this year will be held on 27 November.

P&C members were thanked for their work with a Busy Bee at the end of last term.

The can and bottle return program up the road on Montreal Street is being promoted. You can take your empties along and bank them in the name of the P&C. Each labelled container attracts 10 cents.

The Quiz Night was a brilliant community affair with everyone having a great time. Our organising team did a wonderful job preparing for the evening!

A Sponsorship document is being prepared based on information from WACCSO and the Education Department. This will assist with the fete preparations.

To assist us to get in contact with former students, if you know someone who attended the school previously and has contacts with other former students, could you forward their details to the office so we can set up a data base as we distribute information when it becomes available on the reunion? These contacts may have attended the school in the 1920s-2019.

At our recent School Board meeting our Board members: Luke Bostelman [Chair], Mark Delaney, Katie Perpitch, Lee Macintosh, Daniel Gretton, Ms Tingle, Ms McKinnon, Ms Edmonds and Mr Rondoni looked at Domains 3 and 4 of our Business Plan tracker [Leadership and the use of Resources] were presented with the initial data from our recent surveys to parents/staff/students, (This will form discussions for future meetings). One Line budget information, approved the use of the school after hours, for two sporting groups, had a 120th anniversary meeting update and heard about recent buildings and grounds improvements and proposals.

Our next meeting will be open to our school community to attend. [Thursday the 26th of November at 5:00pm] A yearly Report will be given and later placed on our website.

Currently staff are running Transition mornings for Kindergarten-Pre Primary and Pre Primary to Year One. We have found these sessions very beneficial to assist our youngsters as they move into the junior end of the school.

Our school is acknowledging Remembrance Day with a special assembly run by the Year 3 students from Rooms 11 and 12. It will be held on Wednesday 11 November at 8:50am. Parents are welcome to attend.

Our Year 6 class joined with students from 25 other schools, two student pipe bands and                ex- servicemen/women for a Remembrance Service and March from the City of Cockburn offices to Beale Parke earlier this week. Two mounted horsemen from the Light horse brigade were also in attendance.

Students have participated in Italian week and Outdoor Classroom day this week and will also acknowledge NAIDOC next week with some class activities.

We are currently collecting money for our In-term Swimming program for weeks 7 and 8. Our costs this year have been influenced by the availability of seat belts in buses. The daily lesson costs this term for entry/ bus/ lesson is $6.50. Please contact the office if you have difficulty paying or would like to pay by instalments.

Four of our staff recently nominated to be part of a Network leadership, Future Leaders’ program. A neighbouring principal assisted in the review of the applications and was very impressed with the effort and quality of our applicants. As a result, all 4 who nominated will be assisted with mentor and professional learning opportunities in 2021.
