Drama Matters
The students in Year 11 Elective Drama are a passionate and hard-working group. They take on board each challenge with good grace and lots of humour and exuberance. Their final unit of work for Year 11 was to take a character from a full-length play and create a 4-6 minute monologue. The monologue needed to create a complete theatrical journey and demonstrate their acting skills as well as be ‘in the moment’ with each dilemma, opportunity or obstacle. To sustain a truthful performance for up to 5 minutes on stage alone is no mean feat. This replicates the Individual Project at HSC and is a good activity for students to practically experience what their strengths and weaknesses are, in preparation for next year. Here are some performances from last term:
Jasper Jones – Aidan Lonsdale
James II – Charlie Hamill
The Road – Alec Ramsbottom
James II – Douglas Daniels
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time – Lachlan Miles
Angels in America – Ashley Johnson
Age of Consent - Tristan Jung
The Pillowman - Max Wilkins
Music Matters
The 2020 PAPA (Performing Arts Parents Association) AGM will take place on 9 November at 7.00 pm on line. An invitation will be sent out shortly by email. We would like to have a good turn out for this meeting as some key positions need to be filled for next year's Committee including President, Treasurer and Secretary. Obviously this has been a frustrating year for those involved in the Performing Arts and the possibilities for a new direction are up for discussion. I have some ideas I would like to share with parents and the AGM is the perfect opportunity for this.
We are very pleased to present performances from our Percussion Ensembles this week. These videos (linked below) are password protected and the password can be found on the Portal. I hope everyone will have the chance to log in to watch the performances.
We will be presenting performances from other groups each week to stay connected and show what has been happening at SPX despite the lack of public performances. It's great to hear the bands and ensembles in the mornings and attendance has been good. Students have been auditioned and should from Week 3 attend their new ensemble or group.
We are now working towards filming material for our final Twilight Concert. As you would appreciate the focus of our recordings is not necessarily on Christmas music as the ensembles have material from the Term 3 Twilight Concert to present. I’m sure that these performances will round out a very unusual year and we look forward to a more normal performance program in 2021.
