Wellbeing Prefects' Prayer

Wellbeing Prefects Prayer Monday 19/10/20

The Wellbeing Prefects and Student Leaders who will lead the Pastoral and Wellbeing life of the College over the next 12 months led the College in Assembly Prayer on Monday.

Ben Giles: This week as our Year 12 Leaders begin their HSC with English Paper 1, we lead the College in this prayer.

We begin our prayer: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.

We pray for our Year 12 students that they remain composed and address their examinations in a calm and effective manner while we support them by maintaining a quiet, focussed and studious atmosphere around the College.

Lord Hear Us

Lord Hear our Prayer

Matthew Brannan: We pray for our Edmund Rice Beyond Borders students around the world. Especially those from India who with Br Steve Rocha joined Pope Francis leading the meditation for Mother Earth on Saturday.

Lord Hear Us

Lord Hear our Prayer

We pray for our Year 9 students who continue their Activity days using the theme “Our Journey of learning on Cammeraygal Land”. That they may learn well and benefit from the stories and experience of all those who have gone before us.

Lord Hear Us

Lord Hear our Prayer

Jacob Glass: We pray that all St Pius X students maximise the positive outcomes from Wellbeing Wednesdays this term. Our Year 8 students who are leading the practice of mindfulness, Year 7 connecting activities and Year 9 the Bite Back program for wellbeing. And Year 5, 6, 10 and 11 students who continue their initiatives.

Lord Hear Us

Lord Hear our Prayer

In the Gospel of Matthew, just as Jesus leads the disciples at Galilee to show faith, remain together and support one another in the boat, so as not be overcome by the troubled waters around them. May we work together and support each other to overcome the challenges that we encounter this, and every week.

Year 9 Activity Day House Sports points

Well done to Year 9 PASS students Billy Sykes, Stefan Senicic, Zach Flynn, Marco Balverde, Manas Bansal and Anthony Moutevelis who event managed their respective activities.

Our Year 9 Activity Days continue this week and next with 9H2 on Friday 23rd, 9H5 Tuesday 27th and 9H4 on Friday 30th October.

The day comprises a short introductory video at school of Cammeraygal Elder Professor Dennis Foley who discusses growing up on country albeit as his culture was adversely diluted as a member of the stolen generation.

We then journey on Cammeraygal land to the archaeological carvings at Allambie Hts overlooking Manly, the Harbour, Beacon Hill and the Beaches which feature in Cammeraygal culture and story to discuss the Rites of Passage common to Australian Aboriginal culture.

A drive to Dee Why Lagoon (via Oxford Falls if weather conditions are adverse) allows us to paddle board on the lagoon and surf Long Reef while learning from the story of the Manly Surf School coaches.

After lunch a kayak challenge on Narrabeen Lake allows us to celebrate the rich Aboriginal history there as well as trace the footsteps of AIS Olympic Athlete Jo Brigden-Jones.

Year 10 Student Empowerment Team Table Tennis Competition

This Thursday our Year 10 team leads the House Table Tennis Competition to its culmination with Grand Finals in each age group from Year 7 to Year 11.

With COVID-19 crowd protocols in place we look forward to hearing the results and presenting the awards in each Year Group.

Year 10 St Anthony in the Fields Terrey Hills Land Care

Congratulations to Year 10 students Harry O'Brien, Joshua Brown and Bailey Littrich who were this week recognised for their work earlier in the year supporting the Frenchs Forest Catholic Parish Land care project at the Terrey Hills Church. These students worked alongside a contingent of Brigidine College students in clearing exotic weeds from a section of Kieran’s Creek in preparation for a native bee regeneration program.

If you have an interest in supporting this program as a part of your CIP hours or otherwise please contact Mr Brannan.

Community News

The College was saddened last week to hear of the passing of a stalwart of the College and Our Lady of Dolours Parish in Dr Tony Williams. Dr Williams along with his wife Mary-Rose Williams were great and active supporters of the Parish with Dr Williams recognised as a Knight of the Order of St Gregory one of Australia’s highest Catholic Awards. Their sons Anthony (class of 82), Matt (88), and Justin (94) are proud old boys while their eldest Grandsons Daniel (2008) and Tom DeBlare (2011) also attended in the College. A great extended Pius family to whom we offer our sincerest condolences.

Vale Dr Tony Williams

St Pius X College acknowledges our First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly the Cammeryagal people,

whose interconnection with this land sustained and

fulfilled them mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually,

over thousands of years.

May we learn from their wisdom.
