Visual Arts

As 2020 Arts Domain Leader, I would like to congratulate the Arts Domain VCE Arts Staff for supporting the Arts Students through their artistic journey and providing them with a visual voice.

Thank you to Richard Leask, who showcased the amazing video clips of his Year 12 Media class which provided us with an insight into the creative and innovative voices these students revealed.

Many thanks to Amy Mclellan, who tirelessly spent many hours creating a virtual gallery of Year 12 Studio Arts, Year 12 Visual Communication Design, Year 11 Art and Year 11 VCD. This is a virtual gallery for all to view - an exciting platform showcasing the talents of these remarkable students.

My message to the VCE Arts Students,

A huge thank you to the amazing KSC students who against all odds persevered and persisted throughout COVID 19 to produce such individual and creative art pieces. It has been a real privilege for your teachers, who have followed you along a journey from yr 7 to yr12 where you have been given an opportunity to gain an insight into your thought processes, emotional sensitivity and joy. Through your study of the Arts you have built a strong skills set. The ability to generate ideas from an array of perspectives, to engage in focussed research, analyse, implement, reflect and evaluate. You understand an alternative language, not just written or spoken but visual as well.

Along your arts and design journey you have learnt to see, understand and engage in responding with Art & Design and what this means to you.

We can see through the VCE Arts Exhibition virtual gallery that our Visual Arts students have certainly created stimulating art pieces through their goal setting, independent learning, persistence, hard work and love of the arts. Our KSC gaols of Excellence, Collaboration, Respect, Endeavour, Resilience and Creativity have truly been embedded here.

You have all found your artistic voice, we hope your creative lives continue.

Thank you to our 2020 Visual Arts teaching team, Amy Mclellan, David Foote, Richard Leask, Georgina Russell, Kirby Sens, David Forward, Pauline Volpe and Chris Henson. Without the entire Arts staff working together as a team, the students would not be able to achieve such outstanding art works.

to you, a millennium from now

what view do you have of the world from out there?

what life have you made, that from which sprung from small huts

and that was built upon castles and temples and spring?

what joy does it bring, what celebration is derived

upon a history of strife under foreign regime?

and what is it like to know of a world bigger than once thought?

does it break you, bend you, and force you to kneel?

or does it pull you to action, to spend its lasting influence

so that, in due time, your country might heal?

and what is the world like from out there right now,

do the storms reach your buildings, do the waves ravage your shores?

and does life rear back to normalcy

after the shadows have waned in their growth?

to you, from out there, what is disaster like?

what measures do you take to rebuild and take flight?

what marvels have you conjured from your time-hardened minds?

that might build upon culture and nourish your lives?

so what you tell me, in the finitude between us

of my relics and your progress and both of our woes?

from me, a millennium ago

Artist in Schools program

Last year the Koonung Trail mural was completed as part of the Artist in Schools program. This year, the program has continued and we have been fortunate to be working with Artist Brett Ashby, who has worked with students to complete a new contemporary mural, Light.  Do take the time to wander along to the breezeway to view the fantastic artwork.
