Boarding News

Dear Parents and Friends,

It has been a settled start to Term 2 and I thank families for your support in ensuring the boys returned on time and with their winter uniform organised in advance. Our young men certainly look sharp in the full winter uniform. It is vitally important for the boys to start each term well. I’m sure you would all agree that there are times as parents we need to let our children learn from their mistakes and other times, we need to provide strong guidance on what the right path of action is. Despite the fact there are sometimes very good reasons for taking an extra day or time off throughout the year, given our boys spend less than half of the year in classes, each school day becomes quite significant. I think this is worth reflecting on and considering when it comes to making decisions around school attendance. If we can be united on this from a College and parent perspective, saying no to that next music festival or the like will perhaps be a little easier. Boarding students typically have outstanding attendance, and this is certainly one of the great benefits of a boarding education.

You will soon have a very good indication of your son's academic progress for the first part of 2019. Year 12 parents will receive a Half-Yearly Report next week and Progress Reports for Year 7 to 11 will also be distributed. You will then all have the chance to get some in-depth teacher feedback at next weekend’s Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews.

Our Year 12 cohort are setting a high standard with most of their reports showing a consistent work ethic and very pleasing results. The Year 7 – 11 Progress Reports also show that most boys are putting in their best effort across all subjects. Many boys received a majority of 1’s and there were a couple who achieved an outstanding result of a 1 in every category for every class.

We are looking forward to welcoming all of you to the College for the upcoming Family Weekend. Hopefully by now you’re all booked in for your interviews. Saturday should be great day of rugby against Kings. As you would be aware, we have morning tea and lunch again in the marquee so please enjoy some time socialising with fellow boarding families throughout the day.

A reminder that Mass will be held on Saturday evening at 6:00pm and this is compulsory for the boys to attend in their full winter uniform. The parent social should be an excellent way to cap off a good day. Please make sure you have RSVP’d to Kate Stott. If you haven't already please do so on 0246 294 130 or kate.stott@stgregs.nsw.edu.au

Country Visits

In 2019, Mr Lee MacMaster will be travelling around parts of NSW to promote our wonderful College to prospective families.

It is a tradition for the College to host an Information Session in a variety of regional and rural centres across NSW. These sessions are an opportunity for prospective families to find out more about boarding at St Greg's.

If you know of any families in these areas who may be interested in sending their sons to boarding, please let them know.
