Foundation Unit
News
Welcome to Term 4. Mrs Smith and I hope you all had a nice holiday and a well earned break.
The Foundation grades have a very busy term ahead of them starting with an Incursion this week run
by Western Water. Our Literacy focus this term is Fairy Tales and Next Friday the 18th of October we
are going down to the Woodend Library for a story time session based around Fairy Tales. If the
weather is nice we will follow the Library story time with lunch at the Woodend Childrens’ Park
Parents are welcome to join us there if they would like. Part of our Fairy Tale topic will involve
reading Aboriginal dreamtime stories and we have an excursion to the Ballarat Art Gallery planned
for later in the term where we will look at Aboriginal art. Woodend Primary School will also be
holding its Maths Night where parents can come to school and learn about how we teach
Mathematics. We have lots of fun maths games and activities planned for this event and the
Foundation students have started practising the games and activities in preparation for the event.
The Foundation students have been spending a lot of time developing our skills of co-operation in
order to play games in pairs or small groups. The students have loved the new games that this has
enabled them to play together.
