Prep/One News
Busy times in the Prep One room (We know we say it every newsletter, but it’s true!)
In Literacy, we have been working on hearing and writing blends in words. For example, saying the word ‘brown’ and the children can hear and write [br]. We have written about our fire station visit and been practising our poems for the Arts Showcase Night.
In Maths, we have started a unit on time. The children have been learning the words; morning, afternoon, night, today, yesterday and tomorrow – what they mean and learning them in sign language. We have started learning how to tell the time on analogue clocks. We are starting with o’clock and will move to half past.
For Integrated Studies, we have had St Johns First Aid team come and run a first aid session with the grade. We have been learning how to assess danger and make our environment safe.
In Health and in Play is the Way, we have focussed on what makes a good friend – their qualities, actions and words. We have completed role-play games and made posters.
Don’t forget!
We are having the Father’s Day Night on Thursday 30th August at school, 7pm and the Arts Showcase on Wednesday the 5th at 6.30pm in the Loch Town Hall. We will see you there!

One/Two News
During spelling lessons we have been learning about the LSRASV rule (Longer Spelling Right After Short Vowel Rule). This rule helps us to work us when to use a k or ck, and ch or tch. The students are changing their readers regularly and reading at school each day and it's exciting to see some students up over 150 nights of reading for the year! During Maths lessons we have been learning about telling the time on an analogue and digital clock. We are working on reading and drawing the time to the hour, half-hour and quarter- hour. You can help your child at home by looking at the clock regularly and helping them to figure out the time on both analogue and digital clocks. During our integrated studies unit about safety we enjoyed the St Johns First Aid incursion. We learnt that we need to check for any dangers to ourselves before looking for a response. The students learnt that repeatedly saying the persons name, and squeezing their patients shoulders is a good way to check for a response. We are lucky to have a student teacher working with us this week and for the following 3 weeks. Emma is in her final year of studies and is excited to work with us.
